Big love event at the Shelter!

The Santa Fe animal shelter is reducing its adoption fees for both cats and dogs through August. Facebook Newsfeed_1200x1000_Cat

All adult cats are available for an adoption fee of $9 through the shelter’s 9 Lives for $9 campaign, which it is running in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society. The national adoption promotion aims to shine a spotlight on cats. Additional adoption incentives for cats includes half-price adoption fees for kittens and fee-waived adoptions for all senior cats 9 years and older.

The shelter also is encouraging adoptions of dogs through its Big Love adoption promotion. All dogs 20 pounds and more are available for an adoption fee of $20 through August. The promotion doesn’t include dogs considered Shelter Heroes.

The shelter is open for adoptions until 6 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday through the summer in an effort to find new homes for more animals. The shelter also is offering a number of free items with every adoption, including a bath and brush from Z Pet Hotel, and a 25 percent off coupon for merchandise in the shelter’s adoption center store.

Other incentives in the shelter’s Weekend Wags promotion include free training consultations and shelter merchandise. All animals available for adoption at the shelter are given everything they need from the shelter’s behavior and medical teams, including spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations and flea/tick treatment, microchips, heartworm testing, a free wellness exam and 30 days free pet insurance. For more information, contact the shelter’s adoption center at 983-4309 ext. 610.

Meet August’s sponsored animals – Buttermilk and Rita

All our animals are special, but sometimes we have people who want to help give homeless animals a paw up – so businesses and individuals sponsor the animals through their daily upkeep or their adoption fee. Meet August’s sponsored animals, whose adoption fees are waived through the month:Rita

Rita is a friendly gal who is about 18 months old. This American pit bull mix loves dogs and people and her absolute favorite thing to do is follow around her human. She also knows how to “sit pretty and stay.” She has become a behavior staff favorite as she is super sweet and cuddly. Her adoption fee is being sponsored by Piper and her gang at Back Road Pizza, 1807 Second St., No. 1, 955-9055.

Buttermilk, a 2-year-old lilac point, cream colored shorthaired kitty, is a beautiful feline with a striking personality. She is so friendly and loves to be pet. She also enjoys the company of both people and her feline friends. buttermilk

A guardian angel has sponsored Buttermilk and has waived her adoption fee for the month.
