Our Shelter Campus features 100 acres of beautiful outdoor space and fenced-in dog parks near the city’s Tom Aragon Softball Complex and the Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe Golf Course.

Our large 7-acre Community Dog Park at the entrance to our campus is open to the public and provides room to roam for our community’s social canines. A separate park, called Samantha’s Park of Small Dogs, is situated across the entrance drive from our larger Community Dog Park. It’s meant for those social dogs under 30 pounds or weak/impaired dogs of any size. Three other dog parks are reserved for single use for dogs of any size. These three parks are great for dogs who need exercise but lack necessary social skills to intermingle in the community dog parks. We ask users to limit their stay in the parks to 30 minutes if others are waiting.

The dog parks are maintained by your donations. Please consider supporting the care and improvement of the parks through a donation. Please contact our Donor Relations Coordinator at 505-983-4309, ext. 1204 for more information.

*** Please note dog drinking fountains are turned off for the winter.  Please bring your own water.  Thanks! ***

All the dog parks are available for use by the public from dawn to dusk. We ask users to follow these simple guidelines for everyone’s enjoyment:

  • Use of the dog park is at your own risk.
  • Be courteous and respectful to others.
  • Owners are responsible for any injury and/or damage caused by their dog.
  • Owners must clean up after their dogs.
  • Aggressive, unhealthy or unaltered dogs are not welcome.
  • Owners must monitor, control, and accompany their dog at all times.
  • All dogs must wear a collar and have current license and rabies tags.
  • Dogs must be at least 4 months old to enter.
  • Dogs should be leashed when entering or exiting the dog park.
  • No more than 3 dogs per person are permitted.
  • Food is not allowed in the dog parks, except for small treats for training purposes.
  • Constant barking is not permitted.
  • If your dog is misbehaving or gets in a fight, leash him/her and remove from the park as a “time out”.
  • Children under the age of 16 are not permitted unless accompanied with their parent or guardian.

Please understand that we do not have staff to police the parks.  If there is a human/human dispute, we ask that you try to work it out yourself, call the city police, or call 911, depending on the severity.  If there is a dog/human or dog/dog issue, please contact City Animal Services at 505.955.2700.  Maintenance problems should be reported to Shelter staff.
