Why Give?

Your contribution to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter supports lifesaving work that benefits over 20,000 animals per year. We are a nonprofit, 501(C)3 organization, and we do not receive government funding or tax dollars. We need your help to make Santa Fe a safe place for companion animals.

As one of the most progressive shelters in the nation, we are setting the standard for innovative, caring, animal-focused programs that drive our live-release rate of 95%. Companion animals from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter are some of the happiest, healthiest and most rapidly adopted shelter animals around, and your donation will help to ensure that this continues.

Ongoing and increased financial support is key to the maintenance of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter’s top quality services and programs, as well as the addition of new programs necessary to satisfy the needs of our community. You might consider donating in honor of a loved one, in memory of a person or companion animal, or simply because you want to help Shelter animals. All donations are tax-deductible, and Honorees will receive notification of your gift.

Monthly Giving Program

Monthly giving is a simple way to make regular contributions to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter. As a monthly donor, your donation is automatically billed to your credit card each month. Your monthly donation helps ensure the finest care and comfort for homeless animals who come to the Shelter. When you click the button below, select “Monthly” under donation frequency.

Planned Giving

A gift to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter through your will or living trust is a powerful statement of your support for our mission: supporting animals, saving lives and spreading compassion. It may also provide a reduction in your taxable estate.

The most common planned gift is a bequest through your will or living trust. You can arrange a gift of a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or even all or part of the residuary of your estate. If you would like to make such a gift to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter, your attorney may wish to include language similar to the following:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society, now or formerly at 100 Caja del Rio Rd., Santa Fe, NM 87507, (dollar amount or __ percent of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate), to be used for its general purposes.”

Donate Your Used Car

Wondering what to do with your used car or truck? Donating your old vehicle to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter is convenient, easy, and may qualify you for a tax deduction. Best of all, your donation of a used car or truck will help to save lives.

Visit to donate your car through CARS, a third party car auction service.  Your vehicle will be picked up or towed and you will be provided with a donation receipt, all at no charge to you. Once your car sells, you will receive a tax receipt from CARS.  If the sales amount was more than $500, it will include a IRS 1098C form.  If you have any questions, please call Raechel at 505-983-4309 x1204 or email her at

Naming opportunities

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter campus receives about 2,000 visitors per week. The high volume of foot traffic makes our shelter a place where your business can achieve visibility among a wide demographic of people. Naming a room or kennel is a great way to visually show your support of the shelter. If you have any questions, please call Raechel at 505-983-4309 x1204 or email her at
