Shelter adds spring break camp

The Santa Fe animal shelter has added a two-day session to its popular Critter Camp program for children. The introductory spring break camp for children ages 10 to 13 is set for April 1 and 2 and runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. DSC_1712both days. Cost is $100. The unique hands-on program allows children an in-depth look at animal sheltering. The camps provide a fun and educational opportunity to work with animals and include dog walking and socializing, cat socializing, dog training, learning about house rabbits, humane education, animal artwork and talks and demonstrations by other animal-welfare groups. The shelter has also set the dates for its weeklong summer camps and added a second advanced camp to the schedule. Two summer camps are set for June 1-5 and July 6-10, while the two camps for children who have already participated in the basic camps or have a strong interest in animal welfare are set for July 27-31 and Aug. 3-7. Sessions are limited to 10 participants. All summer sessions are from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Cost: $300 per session.
