How to have a blast running with your dog!

  • Your pet should be healthy enough to walk or run the distance. Your dog will be exposed to other dogs, small children, loud music, people on a microphone, and cheering crowds. You know your dog best, so use your best judgement to ensure both you and your companion enjoy the event.
  • All dogs should be on leashes no longer than 6ft. Equipment (collars, harnesses) should be secure and in good condition. Harnesses work best for these events. Please no choke, pinch, or electronic collars or retractable leashes.
  • Always maintain a leash length distance from other dogs and runners and increase that distance if your dog finds the actions too exciting.
  • Please be considerate! This includes pulling off to the side if your pup needs to potty and cleaning up waste promptly.
  • It’s best to avoid treats right before the event as running can jostle the stomach contents. Let them know they’re the best girl/boy with lots of verbal praise and encouragement.
  • It’s no fun unless everyone is having fun! Monitor your dog for signs of discomfort or overheating, such as excessive panting. Don’t be afraid to walk a bit or even take a break.
