Donate Gently Used Goods to The Cat

Help save lives and declutter your life by donating your gently used items at both locations – it’s a win-win! Our resale stores gladly accept high-quality donations. We feature designer clothing and gently used clothing in excellent condition, along with shoes, accessories, quality household items, furniture, collectibles, and first-rate books. We have limited ability to store, clean, mend, or repair items. Your consideration in the quality of items you donate is appreciated.

Thinking of donating used goods?

Any items that are damaged beyond repair such as torn clothing, soiled or stained or moth damaged clothing.

Please do not donate mattresses, box springs, waterbeds, coil springs, hide-a-beds, bed pillows, etc. Decorative pillows are accepted.

We love finding new homes for old books! Please, no worn, torn or jacketless books. Collectible or first edition books are welcome. Please, no magazines greater than 2 years old.

Please do not donate children’s clothes, toys, accessories such as car seats, cribs, bouncers, walkers, high chairs (unless vintage), strollers (unless vintage), or any type of baby furniture.

Yes, please! The Cat will take current, like-new equipment in working order.

Please do not donate items that operate on or contain fuel including: gas cans, propane cylinders, barbecues, lawn mowers, weed trimmers, camp stoves, tiki torches, etc. Even if items do not have a fuel or a gas tank attached, we do not accept items that need them to function.

Please, no batteries, paints, chemicals, cleaning products, poisons, liquids, etc.

We love to see brand new, unopened items like perfume or cologne. Please do not donate shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion, liquids, any opened or used hygiene products.

If you have unopened, non-expired pet food we’ll happily take it off your hands. Please, no refrigerated pet food or any kind of human foods.

The Cat happily accepts most gently used, fully functioning furniture. Please, no broken or severely damaged items (unless vintage or antiques). If you have any questions about your furniture donation please send a photo to TheCat@SFHumaneSociety.org

We do accept printers and vintage computers in working condition. We cannot accept any appliances with filters (air conditioners, humidifiers, or air purifiers), stoves, refrigerators, washers or dryers, or microwaves.

Please do not donate old linens (unless vintage) such as sheets, and towels. However, linens, sheets, towels and blankets can be dropped off at Santa Fe Animal Shelter’s main campus.

Anything requiring a prescription or safety inspections are not accepted, including walkers, braces, crutches, boots, wheelchairs, hospital beds, handrails, shower chairs, wheelchair lifts, or platforms for cars, etc.

We cannot accept large “tube” televisions or monitors. We love to see functioning flat screens with remote controls. Please, no old or non-operating televisions or monitors.

The Cat cannot accept firearms, explosives, ammunition, flares, bb guns, etc.

Other items we can accept, blinds in good work condition. We do not accept swimming pools, undergarments and socks.
