Impact Report 2024

Thanks to the unwavering support of compassionate community members like you, along with our incredible staff and volunteers, Santa Fe Animal Shelter made a lifesaving impact on thousands of animals last year.

Meowgical Moments

In 2024, we continued our Cozy Cat Cabin Project, an incredible collaboration between our dedicated volunteers, Habitat for Humanity, and Big Brothers & Big Sisters! These cozy hideaways gave community cats the ultimate relaxation spot, safe from the harsh winter weather and scary predators.

  • Our cuddliest cat weighed in at a whopping 16 lbs.!
  • The best cat and critter names for 2024? Sir Isaac Mewton (the cat), Anthony Hopkins (the rabbit), and Mr. Manager (one of our smallest kittens)
  • 399 cats and kittens found homes through New Hope, our foster-program.

Wag-Worthy Moment

2024 was full of happy tails, including this wag-worthy adoption! Sweet Owen found his forever family who flew all the way from Alaska to bring him home. They had previously adopted from us 12-years ago, and when that beloved pup passed, they just knew their next rescue had to come from SFAS. How cool is that?!

“He is so cute, smart, well behaved, loving, and sweet. We are so grateful to have adopted him! He did great with the flights to Alaska. Two 3-hour flights and no issues. He went to Petco for a bath and grooming to start the year off :) He has settled in really well and is curious about everything in his new home. He sleeps with us in bed all night. We’ve taken him on walks and hikes every day. He doesn’t seem to mind the cold temps. And he loves playing with other dogs and makes friends everywhere we go.”

Helping Dogs in Times of Need:

When disaster struck in neighboring communities, our team leapt into action.

Ruidoso Fires June 2024: Within minutes of receiving the call for help, our team drove through the night to transport multiple dogs to safety, ensuring they escaped the Ruidoso disaster zone.
Las Vegas Flash Floods July 2024: Just a few weeks later, we partnered with the incredible ASPCA, to transfer 38 animals out of SFAS to make room for 24 dogs from Las Vegas. These pets, affected by devastating floods, found safety, comfort, and care thanks to this effort.

Together, we provided second chances, loving homes, and brighter futures for pets in Santa Fe and beyond. Saving lives is and always will be at the heart of everything we do—thank you for being a part of our ongoing mission!
