Controller
Job Summary: The Controller will oversee the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and best practices. This role requires expertise in financial management, budgeting, and reporting, with a specific focus on utilizing Financial Edge NXT software. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a commitment to the humane treatment of animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. - Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance. - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management and the Board of Directors. - Oversee the budgeting process, including forecasting and variance analysis. - Utilize Financial Edge NXT to streamline accounting processes and enhance reporting capabilities. - Collaborate with program managers to provide financial insights and support for budgeted departmental expense management and fundraising initiatives. - Ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance with relevant regulations. - Lead the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors to ensure a smooth and efficient audit. - Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment. - Stay current on accounting standards, tax regulations, and best practices within the nonprofit sector. -Demonstrate exceptional judgment, especially in sensitive situations or related to confidential matters, and ensure that communications maintain the highest level of integrity. -Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor. -Maintain compliance with all SFAS policies and procedures Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred. - Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role, preferably within a nonprofit organization. - Proficiency in Financial Edge NXT software is required. Knowledge of Raisers Edge NXT preferred. - Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. - Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. - Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Medical Director
The Medical Director oversees the entire medical program for sheltered animals. Acts as liaison between the shelter clinic, other SFAS departments, and the public. Is responsible for the medical health and well-being of sheltered animals. The incumbent creates and implements protocols for shelter medicine and the flow of animals through SFAS. The Medical Director is the license holder for the shelter clinic. The incumbent also performs as a Shelter Clinic Veterinarian. Veterinarian Assistant or Technician
Santa Fe Animal Shelter Clinic - Assist the veterinarians in the medical and surgical treatment of animals. Intake animals entering the shelter system following proper protocols of fear free animal handling and computer data entry. Assist the veterinarians in the aspects of intake, laboratory diagnostics, radiographs, animal restraint, vaccinations, deworming, parasite treatments, and monitoring patient weights. Keep clinic and kennels clean, administer proper medications, and feed and exercise animals as directed. Thaw Hospital Veterinarian
A staff veterinarian for the Clare Eddy Thaw Animal Hospital is responsible for seeing appointments, performing exams, and providing medical and/or surgical treatment to owned animals on a sliding scale basis. Clinic Veterinarian
The Shelter Clinic Veterinarian provides high-quality medical care to shelter animals, including spay/neuter procedures, treatment of a wide range of medical conditions, and herd health maintenance. Implements shelter medical protocols as established by the Medical Director, and delivers and ensures humane medical treatment of all animals seen in the Shelter Clinic. Thaw Hospital - Veterinary Assistant/Technician
Clare Eddy Thaw Animal Hospital located on the Santa Fe Animal Shelter campus is accepting resumes for experienced full and part time Veterinary Assistant/Technicians. We are seeking team members that have veterinary hospital and animal handling experience. Must be willing to learn and work as a progressive team. We are seeking candidates that are self-motivated, who will administer vaccinations and medication, draw blood, assist the doctors with running diagnostics, assist in surgery, IV catheter placement etc. Must love working with the public, have compassion for animals in need, and possess a strong work ethic. Candidates must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and must be available to work weekends. Bilingual (Spanish) speakers are a plus. Full-time benefits include: Health insurance, Hospital discount, Vacation time. Compensation commensurate with experience. RVT and CVT preferred, but not required. Facilities Technician
Santa Fe Animal Shelter (SFAS) is looking for a candidate to grow our Facilities Team. SFAS is Northern New Mexico’s largest open admission and no-kill shelter that serves Santa Fe City and County. The Facilities team is responsible for upkeep and repairs of our fleet, buildings, and grounds so all of the other teams can meet the needs of the animals in our care. Our main campus is on 100 acres on Caja Del Rio just off of 599, and has 4 main buildings. We also have two buildings in town. Within our services we have offices, 3 medical facilities, storage units, kennels, even an apartment for visiting staff. It’s never the same day twice and there is always a new challenge to figure out or fix. One thing you will never be at the shelter is bored. And if you manage to defy all expectations and get bored you can always take a break walking one of our dogs or playing with our cats.
We are looking for someone with a solid background in the trades, and with this many buildings specialists are encouraged to apply as well. Training will be provided for the right candidate, so mechanically inclined and capable people might be the right fit for us if you have the desire to gain skills and experience. This is a full time position and the salary is competitive and dependent on experience and skills at the time of hire. The Cat Stores - Resales Sales Associates
Santa Fe Animal Shelter employees are committed to animal welfare, and we are looking to add a talented individual to our team. The Cat, Santa Fe’s premier resale store, is looking for full-time and part-time sales associates. Individuals must maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism to customers at all times and must be able to work either Saturday or Sunday and sometimes both. Have an understanding of pricing in terms of the current market value of items in the store and knowledge of trends and styles- ie. vintage vs. old, as well as, have extensive knowledge of brands in regards to quality, designer, price, location. Individuals must be capable of carrying up to 50 pounds, be self-motivated, have a team player attitude, stand for long periods at a time, and must love animals.
