Animal Control Services

Santa Fe Animal Shelter has partnered with City and County Animal Services for decades to support humane, effective animal welfare efforts across Santa Fe. Through contracts with both the City and the County of Santa Fe, we work closely with local Animal Services teams to ensure that lost, stray, and vulnerable animals receive the care and attention they need.

We work to improve the wellbeing of animals, while the City and County continue to uphold their important responsibility for public safety. Urgent reports such as dangerous animals, dog bites, or animals in immediate distress take priority over non-emergency concerns like barking dogs or deceased animal pick-up. Still, every call matters. We rely on our community to report stray, mistreated, or at-risk animals so Animal Services can respond swiftly, safely, and effectively.

While Santa Fe Animal Shelter is not an enforcement agency, we play a critical role in supporting the community and Animal Services by providing shelter, medical care, and adoption services for animals in need
